Artist Statement

With a dissatisfaction with modern life, I aim to escape it. While the digital age has made it easier for us to connect with one another around the world, I believe that it has also separated us from ourselves and what we are capable of. Our dependence on technology has forced us to forget the labours of past that so many artisans spent their lives mastering. The stories of the lives of those who came before us have been lost and their work and efforts often forgotten with time. Saddened by this concept, I attempt to reconnect with this loss through my art, leaving contemporary issues behind in exchange for exploration of the past.

My work often depicts scientific specimens, artifacts, and historical artwork that require intense dedication and work to mimic common trademarks of the digital and historical age. Much of my current practice involves 2D mediums such as acrylic paint, ink, and chalk and occasional 3D works done in clay and metal. I primarily pull inspiration from art history prior to the 1800s and world history with special interest in European and Celtic history due to my own ancestry.

With my art, I bring tangibility as my weapon into our modern battle of ones and zeros. Whether my subjects come from our own history or that of my own imagination, my goal is to allow others to explore and adventure through the stories that each work narrates.
